ArCoNet - The Arts & Community Network and Casa de Venezuela present

Dances From Around the World

An interactive Musical Program that encourages the audience to participate in the exploration of music through dances around the world. ArCoNet’s Chamber Orchestra will feature music that conveys various cultures and customs.
From minuets to conga, this concert, performed by classically trained students and faculty, will bring the audience on a journey that explores the dance-like music found in the classical literature and beyond. The Chamber Orchestra will feature Grieg’s Holberg Suite as well as El Cumbanchero, a well-known piece from a Puerto Rican Composer. The ArCoNet Faculty Quartet will open the performance with a Minuet, a traditional French dance found frequently in compositions by J. S. Bach and W. A. Mozart. The Chamber Orchestra will then demonstrate music in the style of a waltz with the second movement of Suk’s beautiful Serenade for Strings and Gaban con Gavilan en Fuga, a recent arrangement of a Venezuelan Joropo. Throughout the concert audience will learn about the history and origin of each dance with insightful explanations, rhythmic activities, and much more. ArCoNetaims to further its goal of fostering a connection between music, culture, and the community in this compelling collaboration with the Casa De Venezuela Educational initiatives.
